Shilajit’s active compound is fulvic acid — a carrier molecule that helps shuttle minerals across cell membranes. Research suggests it may also support the mitochondrial electron transport chain, where cells generate ATP (usable energy). It also contains dibenzo-alpha-pyrones (DBPs), studied for supporting mitochondrial membranes against oxidative stress.
